Research History

Researches in Brazil are experimenting with a new treatment for severe burns using the skin of tilapia fish. In China, researchers have tested tilapia skin on rodent to study its healing properties, but scientist in a Brazil say their trials are the first on humans. They trials on the second degree and third degree burn patient.
The tilapia treatment can speed of healing by several days and reduce the need for pain medication the Brazilian researches say.

Tilapia skin is a fungal and effective option to treat patients with second degree and third degree burns. Second degree burn (partial thickness burn) they result in pain, redness, swelling. Third degree burn (full thickness burn affect deeper tissue) they result in white or blackened, charred skin.

Frozen pig skin and even human tissue have long been placed on burn to keep then moist and allow the transfer of collagen, a protein that promotes healing. Fish skin contains large amount of moisture and type I collagen proteins than the human skin.
